JyotishiVani is provided by JyotishiVani (“we”). We decide how and why your personal data is used, which makes us the data fiduciary under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Contact us at support@jyotishivani.com.
What we collect, and why
Your phone number
You sign in with your mobile number. We send it to our SMS provider so that it can text you a one-time code. Your account identifier is derived from the number in a way that does not reveal the number itself.
Birth details
Your date, time and place of birth, and how sure you are of the time, are needed to calculate your chart. When you correct them we keep the new version and use it from then on. If you add someone else, such as a partner for kundli matching, you confirm that you have their consent; the app will not save their details without that confirmation. If you add a child’s details, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian.
Conversations with Vani
Your questions and Vani’s answers are stored so that you can return to a conversation and so that follow-up questions make sense.
Settings
Your answer language, matching system and the place used for your panchang. Your preferred chart style (North or South Indian) stays on your phone.
Approximate location, only if you allow it
If you tap “Use my location”, the app asks for approximate location only, rounds the coordinates to about a kilometre and saves the nearest place as your panchang place, so sunrise and Rahu kaal are right for where you are. Precise location is never requested. On this website, the Rahu kaal calculator uses your location only inside your browser; it is never sent to us.
Reminders
The daily reminder and the Sade Sati reminder are scheduled on your phone. No push server receives them.
Technical records
To keep the service running and secure we keep limited technical records, such as request counts for rate limits and error types. Outside development, these never contain your messages, names, places or coordinates.
This website
The website sets no cookies and has no advertising trackers.
Who processes your data for us
- Hosting and database. Our servers and database run with a cloud hosting provider, which stores the data on our behalf.
- SMS delivery. Our SMS provider receives your phone number to send and check sign-in codes.
- AI model provider. To understand your question and write the answer, we send the model provider the text of your message, the recent conversation it belongs to, and the calculated chart facts the answer needs.
- Place search. When you type a place that our built-in list does not know, only that place name is sent to a map-search service to find it, never your name, date or time of birth.
Some of these providers may process data outside India. We share only what each needs to do its job.
How your data is protected
- Birth details, names, messages, answers and settings are encrypted in our database.
- Access controls in the database mean each account can only ever reach its own data.
- Data travels over encrypted connections, and access to the database is limited to what running the service needs.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your data while you have an account. You can delete it at any time in the app:
- A saved person: Me → the person → the bin icon removes their birth details, every earlier version and their calculated chart.
- A conversation: the bin icon in your list of chats.
- Your account: Me → Delete my account, then type DELETE. Your charts, saved people and chats are erased, and nothing about you is written afterwards.
If you cannot use the app, contact us and we will verify the request and delete your data.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or completed, have it erased, withdraw consent, nominate someone to exercise these rights for you, and have a grievance addressed. Write to support@jyotishivani.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Age
JyotishiVani is intended for people aged 18 and over.
Sensitive topics
Vani does not predict death, lifespan, illness or medical outcomes, and refers questions about health, mental health or pregnancy to professionals. It gives no medical, legal or financial advice. If a message suggests someone is in distress, Vani replies with support and helplines.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app about any change that matters.
